WALLBURY HILL FORT, RIVER STORT
12 hectare Iron Age fort. No fort access, but beautiful stretch of river.
Find car park at Twyford Lock, Pig Lane, Bishop's Stortford, CM22 7PA (51.852573, 0.168362). Launch paddle board or kayak just downstream of the lock. Paddle or walk the Stort Valley Path 1.3 miles north to Little Hallingbury.

THE FLITCH WAY
Cycle or walk 6 miles of dismantled railway between Bishops Stortford and Dunmow.
Find main car park at Hatfield Forest, Bishop's Stortford, Takeley, CM22 6NH (51.859580, 0.245327). With back to the main road, turn right/north and walk 2/3 mile up onto the Flitch Way and then walk right/east towards Dunmow.

THE DRUCE, RIVER STORT
Drier than a digestive biscuit in summer, lapping at the doors of the cottages in a wet winter. Red kites hunt over Chalkpit Lake.
Find Fox and Hounds in High St, Clavering, Saffron Walden, CB11 4QR (51.966303, 0.146653) and walk to the byway and footpath (known as The Druce).
